With Emily Longhurst & The Secret Shore Singers - SUITABLE FOR ALL AGES

10am– 1pm followed by an afternoon performance of singing and stories of smugglers and Newhaven characters. 2-3

Tickets £5 -HERE

Shanties are wonderful, rousing songs with a long tradition and history. They have come from many different lands and have travelled all around the world with the sailors who sang them. They are a joy to sing, uplifting, moving, raucous, tender, full of power and love and the passions of life at sea.

Emily has been learning, singing and teaching shanties and songs of the sea for a number of years and cannot get enough of the exhiliration and joy of singing a good shanty!

Come and joing her for an uplifting session of singing right next to our river.

The feeling of a natural high is created in part by the release of a group of feel good chemicals called endocannabinoids. We make them naturally in our bodies.

 What activities produce endocannabinoids?

30 mins of cycling - endocannabinoid levels increased by 19%

30 mins of dancing - endocannabinoid levels increased by 21%

30 mins of singing - endocannabinoid levels increased by 42% and was also linked with a general sustained improvement in mood.

MELD- A Holding the Fort event

MELD 1-3pm Rachel Cohen

MELD is an event for improvisers of all art forms: music, dance, visual art, theatre and spoken word,
hosted by Rachel Cohen

The idea is to bring together artists and performers from these various disciplines and play together.

We play instruments and everyday objects. We use our voices, texts, our bodies and the space around us.

MELD is not a gig. Everyone who comes is a participant. We perform for ourselves not for an audience, .

To take part you don't need to be a professional artist or performer. Just to be open to improvising. There will be some structures to work with.

It’s not aimed at children, more about allowing adults to indulge in childlike play.

This session is free and includes entry to the Fort but you need to book by email mail@rachelcohen.co.uk
